For When You're Missing the Point — Call on Our Friends
By The Editors — June 21, 2026
No publication, no organization, no community exists in isolation. We are part of an ecosystem of people and projects working toward a more just, more thoughtful, more interconnected world. This piece is our small attempt to honor that ecosystem.
We asked our readers: who do you turn to when you need grounding? When the news is too heavy, when your local struggles feel overwhelming, when you need to remember that others are doing this work too? The response was enormous.
What emerged is a map — incomplete, of course, always incomplete — of the networks of care and resistance that sustain people doing hard work. Faith communities that have made social justice central to their practice. Reading groups. Mutual aid networks. Newspapers and magazines that have chosen people over profit.
We share this list not as an authority but as a neighbor. Use it however you need. Add to it. Share it. And when you find your own people, your own communities of meaning and action, hold them close. They are the infrastructure of a better world.
